Tuition & Fees 

  • Fall trimester registration is due on or before Thursday, July 20th and must be accompanied by your $1000 deposit and financial aid application, if applying. A $125 late fee plus an additional $5 per day will be assessed for all registrations received after July 20th.
  • Spring trimester registration is due on or before December 14th and must be accompanied by your $1000 deposit and financial aid application, if applying. A $125 late fee plus an additional $5 per day will be assessed for all registrations received after December 14th.
  • Summer trimester registration is due on or before April 12th and must be accompanied by your $1000 deposit and financial aid application, if applying. A $125 late fee plus an additional $5 per day will be assessed for all registrations received after April 12th.

ALL STUDENTS  (on-site and off-site) are required to register.

Students are free to bring their own accompanist and, if they do, will not be assessed this fee.

FALL RETREAT AND SPRING INTENSIVE – Attendance at the Fall Retreat and Spring Intensive is mandatory for all matriculated & Mechina students, whether they are taking classes at AJR, studying offsite, or on a leave of absence. Gesher and M.A. students are encouraged to attend and will be billed accordingly.

LEAVE OF ABSENCE – With the permission of the Academic Dean, students are permitted to maintain a matriculated status for two consecutive semesters. During this time students are required to pay the offsite registration fee. Attendance at Retreat and Intensive is still required (see above).

TRANSFER CREDITS AND PRIVATE STUDY CREDIT – A fee is payable for each credit recorded on a student’s transcript to reflect work done independently or through another institution. Upon completion of study, the student submits a completed Transcript Update Request and pays the fee. A student transferring 8 credits or more from the same institution at one time, will pay a maximum of $750. The fee for Transfer Credit or Private Study is for the administration of these arrangements. The student is responsible for all tuition payable to any other institution or individual in connection with Private Study or Transfer Credit. There will be no fee charged to record coursework taken as part of the AJR Masters Track at Gratz College.

ACCELERATED PROGRAM FEE – This fee covers meeting with the Dean and selected faculty members to outline the requirements for the individual student’s accelerated program. ADVANCED STANDING FEE This fee covers the award of two to eight credits based on prior study and demonstrated mastery of curricular areas. Additional credits are subject to further fees. COACHING Matriculated cantorial students are required to receive coaching every semester enrolled as matriculated students. Student who choose to receive coaching privately, must have the credit recorded on their transcript as a Private Study and will be charged the Private Study Fee.

RITUAL SKILLS WORKSHOP – Ritual Skills Workshops are offered to assist students in gaining the skills necessary to pass the yearly ritual skills requirements. RITUAL SKILLS may be taken as 1 course or part of tuition package. $775 fee applies with fewer than 8 credits. With 8 or more credits, Ritual Skills counts as 1 credit for calculating tuition. Students DO NOT receive credit for this course.

FIELDWORK SUPPORT SEMINAR – Although students receive no credit for Fieldwork Support Seminar it is considered two credits for purposes of Tuition calculation. Field Work approval is required.

CORE CONCEPTS SEMINAR – Students are required to take four of the six semesters of Core Concepts Seminar. Core Concepts Seminar meets for one-half period weekly during the full semester. MA students for whom this class counts for credit will be charged the for credit price. Rabbinical and cantorial students who are not taking this class as part of the MA program are not charged for these four seminars and receive no credit.

EXAMINATION FEE – The Examination Fee is payable if any AJR Examination is retaken more than once or if any Examination is prepared specially for a student, as may be the case in an application for Advanced Standing. The Examination Fee is payable in addition to any fee for Determination of Advanced Standing.

This fee covers the award of two to eight credits based on prior study and demonstrated mastery of curricular areas. Additional credits are subject to further fees.

INCOMPLETE FEE – Should you be granted an extension on an Incomplete, a fee will be charged to have that work graded.

CREDIT CARDS – Please keep in mind that we prefer payment by check. We do, however, accept credit cards for tuition payments. You may also pay your tuition online through PayPal.

TUITION PAYMENTS

Full payment for Fall Trimester 2017 is due on August 15th. Full payment for Spring Trimester 2018 tuition is due on January 8th. Full payment for Summer Trimester is due on May 7th. Should full payment not be received by August 14th, January 8th, and May 7th respectively, students will automatically be put on a deferred payment plan and charged the Installment Fee ($100). Students will not be able to re-register or be ordained until full payment is received. The penalty for failure to pay in full by the end of the semester is based on the amount of unpaid balance. The penalty will be assessed for every quarter the balance remains unpaid. If the balance is:

Deferred Payment Plan – If full payment poses a hardship, tuition may be paid in four (4) monthly installments. An Installment Fee of $100 will be charged to any student requesting such a Payment Plan. Installments payments for Fall Trimester are due on the 15th of each month starting on August 15th, September, October, and November. Installment payments for Spring Trimester are due on the 8th of each month, starting with January 8th, February, March, and April. Installment payments for the Summer Trimester are due on the 7th of each month starting with April 7th, May, June, and July.

Refunds – Students who cancel registration prior to the first day of classes are entitled to a refund of 95% of that semester’s tuition; students who withdraw within two weeks after the first day of classes are entitled to a refund of 80% of that semester’s tuition; students who withdraw within three weeks after the first day of classes are entitled to a refund of 60% of that semester’s tuition. No refunds will be made after the first four weeks of classes.

Specific Policies for GI Bill Recipients

Credit for Prior Learning (38 CFR 21.4254(c )(3). The school maintains a written record of the previous education and training of the GI Bill recipient and grant credit appropriately, with the training period shortened proportionately.

Pro Rata Refund (38 CFR 21.4254(c)(13), 21.455). We will refund the unused portion of prepaid tuition and fees on a pro rata basis. The exact proration will be determined on the ratio of the number of days of instruction completed by the student to the total number of instructional days in the course. Any amount in excess of $10.00 for an enrollment fee or registration fee will also be prorated.
